"Convenient tool that you can use without being an expert in building technology"

If you make climate-smart choices very early in the process, you have a great opportunity to reduce your carbon footprint. That's why Emma Karlsson, project developer at Hemsö, uses Plant's feasibility study tool where she logs in and tests different scenarios.

In the initial design of projects and when detailed plans are drawn up, there is no detailed 3D model to work from. Instead, Emma Karlsson tests different scenarios in a simplified model.
- It is a flexible and easy-to-understand tool that you can use without being an expert in building technology. We can quickly test different options back and forth and make comparisons. We can also clearly see where the project is in relation to our climate goals. In half an hour, you can test three or four different options, get a result of the climate impact and what we need to do to achieve our climate goals," says Emma Karlsson.

Among other things, Emma has made climate calculations in the preliminary study phase of a future nursing home in the Kornknarren neighborhood in Västerås. Construction in the area is in full swing and later this year construction will also start on the nursing home. The climate footprint was investigated based on early project parameters such as building form, size, number of floors and different building technology choices.
- We are confident in the results provided by Plant's tool. The company has extensive experience of complex climate calculations and has been able to verify the results provided by the simplified tool. We at Hemsö have not met anyone in the market who is as good at climate calculations at such an early stage as Plant," says Emma Karlsson.
Tobin Rist, an expert in early stages and selection of frame systems at Plant, adds that the tool is both cheap and convenient.
- We have made it easy to investigate environmental impacts based on a few parameters. By doing the work yourself, you will get different scenarios. You can take these to your meeting with an architect or designer, for example. Even if you are not an expert on climate issues, you get a picture of how to reduce emissions," explains Tobin Rist.
Together with developers and experts at Plant, Hemsö has been involved throughout the development of the tool to enable climate optimization at a very early stage. Hemsö has three years' experience of Plant's climate calculations and also uses Plant at later stages of the construction process.
