Experimenting to find the best solutions
Calculate makes it possible to simulate different scenarios with a simplicity that was previously missing.
– We experimented live with everything from different structural solutions and internal walls to insulation. Seeing the climate effects straight away made us more inclined to test alternatives and find the most sustainable solutions, says Strinsjö.
– Three hours became five minutes
Speed and simplicity stand out. Strinsjö describes how the tool changed their way of working:
– Previously, everything was very rigid. Every change became a project of its own and had to be made in several places. We printed reports and compared them manually. With Calculate, we could make changes and get results in real time. That made us more inclined to play and experiment. Three hours became five minutes.
Role-based views are valued internally
One of Calculate's most appreciated features is its role-based views. Adapting information and functions to different project roles can improve collaboration and decision-making.
– With four different views, we received information tailored to each role. Project directors needed a quick five-minute overview, while the project manager worked in detail with different scenarios and material choices. This saved a great deal of time, enabled more people to engage with climate issues and allowed different roles to collaborate in a new way, Strinsjö explains.
Easy to start using the software
– The barriers to using Calculate are so low. It does not require a burning interest in sustainability or a two-day training course. A short learning curve and an intuitive interface make the tool accessible to everyone. With Calculate, more projects can be assessed and more people can work to reduce climate impact in projects, says Strinsjö.
A unique combination of cost-estimate and model inputs
Calculate performs climate calculations directly from estimating tools such as Bidcon, MAP and Wikells Sektionsdata. Serneke also used Concept, Plant's feasibility study tool.
– Being able to choose between the project's model and its cost estimate as a starting point in Concept is unique. I do not know of any other software where that is possible, says Strinsjö.
Serneke was the first to assess projects in Calculate and used the software on around ten tender projects and about five design and production projects.
– The tool's simplicity and modern design are exactly right for the times and will help contractors achieve their climate targets, Strinsjö concludes.
