Breadth that suits different needs and projects

COWI works on projects that vary in size, complexity and requirements. Plant's breadth was therefore an important factor in its choice. The tool supports calculations for the entire life cycle as well as different environmental certifications and climate requirements.

Before choosing Plant's climate calculation tool, COWI carried out a thorough review of the alternatives.

– When we started looking at and testing Plant, we quickly felt that it was a good tool for us across many different types of projects and assignments, says Julia Nyström, Sustainability Specialist at COWI.

From early stages through the rest of the project

Another major benefit is the ability to start climate calculations at an early stage and continue working with them as the project develops.

This enables COWI to support customers throughout the process, from early decisions to more detailed analysis in later stages.

Model-based, with support for multiple quantity sources

Plant being a model-based climate calculation tool was a major advantage for COWI.

– The model-based approach was important to us. Being able to work with different quantity sources also gives us flexibility and enables us to meet the different conditions in each project.

Comparing scenarios and identifying opportunities for improvement

With Plant, COWI can compare different scenarios and visualise how factors such as material choices and construction systems affect a project's climate results. This makes it easier to see where climate impact is greatest and where different measures can have the best effect.

– We believe Plant will make it easier for us to compare alternatives and show customers where the greatest opportunities for improvement lie. In this way, we hope to quickly identify the low-hanging fruit and develop concrete proposals for reducing climate impact.

COWI also highlights ease of use as an important benefit. A straightforward workflow makes it easier to test alternatives and use the results in discussions with customers.

COWI has only just started using Plant in Sweden, but sees a clear need to scale up the work and use the tool on more assignments in the future.
