What are the industry’s most pressing sustainability issues now?

“A great deal is happening in European sustainability. CSRD, ESRS and the EU Taxonomy are establishing the framework for measuring and assessing sustainability. Implementing it and ensuring it contributes to sustainable construction will involve almost the entire construction and property sector in different ways over the coming years. Alongside strong interest in sustainability reporting, we see growing focus on circular construction and biodiversity, while climate change remains a critical issue.”

Why is Plant investing in this new role?

“At Plant, we have developed very powerful software for climate calculations based on BIM and cost estimates. To continue innovating and providing valuable decision support to customers, we need to focus even more on reducing climate emissions and explore additional sustainability areas. For example, we see considerable potential to improve understanding of the value chain’s effects on biodiversity, material consumption and circularity.”

And how do you feel about it?

“I am very excited! We see enormous potential in combining our software and climate expertise with new sustainability challenges. My new role will let me work more closely with construction projects, where much development in construction happens. I am familiar with this from my time at Skanska, including developing NollCO2 and exploring what climate targets mean in practice. I now hope for a similar journey in more sustainability areas where Plant does not have all the answers but is ready to find them with customers. Of course, I also have mixed feelings about leaving the operational work of bringing our fantastic LCA team together. We have had an amazing journey!”

As Fredrik changes roles, we are recruiting a Group Manager for our LCA team.
