Over the past year, Skanska has tested Plant in five building regions and calculated nearly 200 projects. Results have been positive: with this tool, project teams and a climate expert can carry out a climate calculation in 90 minutes, work that previously could take an entire working day.
Anders Edvardsson, Climate and Sustainability Director at Skanska Hus Syd, leads implementation.
“We will be able to calculate climate impact in all our tenders and offer customers concrete climate improvements,” says Edvardsson.
For Plant, the agreement marks an important step.
“Supporting Skanska in sustainable construction is significant for us. They have already come a long way. Our software gives them even better opportunities to make climate-smart decisions early,” says Pelle Tunell, CEO and co-founder of Plant.
Plant’s software lets customers experiment with building components and quickly calculate the climate impact of alternatives.
“From a simple sketch, we can produce a proposal for an entire building with lower-carbon alternatives in 90 minutes. That was previously impossible,” explains Edvardsson.
Working together gives project teams a shared picture of climate impact and lets them take informed decisions immediately.
“Now a climate expert and project manager can work together early in the same tool and gain a shared understanding of climate impact,” says Edvardsson.
Bringing climate calculations into tendering has become a strategic issue for Skanska.
“It creates opportunities and reduces risks. Calculating climate impact at tender stage lets us see early whether requirements can be met or alternative solutions are needed. We can manage risks before they become costly,” says Edvardsson.
Plant plans to scale its software globally in the coming years.
“Skanska’s work inspires both Sweden and the wider world. It shows how climate calculations can become a natural part of the process that everyone in a project can understand, influence and act on,” says Tunell.
